Some of the best gifts.

Being such a huge DragonLance fan for many years, since I discovered it as a kid in the 90’s, it has gotten me through some tough times. Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman have been some of my favorite authors of all time. I loved so many of their novels from DragonLance to the Death Gate Cycle series, to their Dragonships series. Growing up poor, and coming from an isolated country that didn’t get many new merchandise upon their releases, I always cherished the books I was able to get by them. I remember when Dragons of a Fallen Sun released, I was getting paid $5.15 USD an hour. I read in a magazine that Dragons of a Fallen Sun was releasing soon and I HAD to get it, but we had no bookstores that would carry it upon release (shipments to my home country took forever). So I pre-ordered it from one of the many Fantasy/Book magazines I read. I remember ending up paying around $75 USD for it (due to shipping and hard cover). I remember being so excited when the book came in and I just got lost in the pages.

With that being said, my wife knows how much I love Margaret and Tracy, and knows my love for DragonLance. So-much-so, I introduced DragonLance to her when we were teenagers. I remember her “borrowing” my Defenders of Magic trilogy and I swear to you, she didn’t return them until -years- later. Haha! I’m just glad she became a DragonLance fan, as well. Now we share the love for these books, and Margaret and Tracy’s writings, together.

Well, unbeknownst to me, she had ordered me some books that were actually signed by Margaret! I literally cried. It was a dream come true. These were two of the best gifts I’ve ever received in my entire life. My love for DragonLance is far above many other series and worlds. Not taking anything away from Wheel of Time series, Sword of Truth series, Forgotten Realms, or even Ravenloft, but Margaret and Tracy blew me away every time they wrote a DragonLance book and I owe it to them for the strong love I have for Dungeons and Dragons, for Fantasy novels, and for being who I am this day.

So thank you to my wife for these gifts, and although you will probably never read this, thank you Margaret and Tracy. Two icons I owe a lot to, because I wouldn’t be me without their works of art.
